Comment by Pauliina Jalonen on July 11, 2011 at 1:38pm The results from the RESOLVE project (lead by Tim Jackson) should be interesting and relevant to look at. Didn't have time to look at them yet, but would be interested to discuss them later on.

Comment by Nora Brüggemann on July 27, 2011 at 1:06pm Dear Pauliina, thanks for the tipp. I just scanned through most of the results from the RESOLVE project and you are right: they are interesting and relevant! Easy access to the various different, mainly interview or survey based project results is possible via one page summaries of each in this document: http://resolve.sustainablelifestyles.ac.uk/sites/default/files/One%...
Interesting research results include:
Encouraging attitude change: The role of (threatened) identities
...persuasive communication in relation to meat consumption which may better focus on health concerns than environmental concerns. It also suggests that persuasive messages may be least effective for those who most need to change: for example, those who eat a lot of meat and identify strongly with being a meat eater are least likely to find an anti-meat message convincing.
Rebound and Backfire Effects from Abatement Actions by UK Households
...our study points to two key strategies to minimise rebound: to encourage households to shift patterns of consumption to lower GHG intensive categories; and to encourage households to take up low carbon investments.
Threatened Identities and Resistance to Change
...The policy implication is that messages demanding change may threaten individuals’ sense of continuity; challenges to lifestyles may threaten the sense of distinctiveness; and enforced change, through legislation or modification of infrastructure, may undermine individuals’ sense of selfefficacy. Such approaches, in seeking to encourage changes towards sustainable behaviour, may be experienced as identity threats and in fact increase resistance to change. Communication and approaches aimed at increasing sustainable behaviour should maintain or enhance the sense of self, in order to avoid triggering resistance.
... and much more. Just have a look. And maybe let us know what you find most interesting.
Comment by Julia Backhaus on August 20, 2012 at 12:18pm Hi Nora and Pauliina,
This looks very interesting - thanks for sharing! Unfortunately, the link to the RESOLVE summaries of results does not work (for me) and I cannot find them on the project website. Do you happen to have the document or a link that works?
Thanks and best,
Julia

The final conference of SPREAD Sustainable Lifestyles 2050 will be held on November 26-27 2012 in Brussels.
The findings of the SPREAD 2050 project will be showcased and discussed during the two day conference. It is a possibility to hear the first hand results of the SPREAD 2050 project. Emphasis is on how the findings can be turned into action.
