In view of the UN celebration of the 20th anniversary of the UN Conference on Environment and Development (Rio 1992) and the 40th anniversary of the UN Conference on the Human Environment (Stockholm 1972), The Resource Efficiency Alliance and the Leader of the Marrakech Task force on Sustainable Lifestyles, invite you to a workshop on “Mainstreaming Sustainable Lifestyles and Consumption Patterns in the EU”.
How to change our unsustainable consumption and production patterns and contribute to low carbon and resource efficient economies is the agenda of EU Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP). It is about “the use of services and related products, which respond to basic needs and bring a better quality of life while minimizing the use of natural resources and toxic materials as well as the emissions of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the service or product so as not to jeopardize the needs of further generations” (Oslo symposium 1994).
The European Union has launched its Action Plan on SCP. It will be reviewed by 2012. The workshop will try to answer the following questions: How should consumption and well being be addressed? What should be the next steps? How to make best use of the available toolkit on sustainable lifestyles? What are the new ways to engage with consumers as a key partner in the value chain?
